Impact

Dedicating Assets To Create a Positive Impact

Verizon, in 2022, has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies into its operational and strategic decision-making, striving to become a more resilient and robust company.

Recognizing the significant environmental and social risks and opportunities tied to its operations, Verizon has focused on key areas such as digital inclusion, climate protection, human prosperity, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

This focus has led to impactful initiatives like reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to taking millions of cars off the road, issuing a $1 billion green bond for renewable energy, and investing in community-based programs to bridge the digital skills gap.

These efforts are guided by governance, integration, engagement, and reporting – four pillars that form the bedrock of Verizon's ESG strategy. This approach, supported by cross-functional teams, ensures informed decision-making, authentic stakeholder engagement, transparent communication, and effective governance over ESG risks and opportunities.

Innovative Design for Sustainability

At its core, Self-Cycle™ plastics are formulated to be environmentally friendly. Recognizing that a significant percentage of plastic isn't recycled and often ends up in landfills, Self-Cycle™ plastics have been engineered to address this issue.

Specifically designed to ensure rapid degradation when disposed of in landfills, Pivet’s Self-Cycle™ technology is a solution that provides an eco-friendly alternative for consumers that doesn’t require them to change their existing behavior.

This is crucial, considering the vast majority of plastics entering landfills can take hundreds of years to degrade, leading to soil and water pollution, endangering wildlife, and contributing to global environmental degradation.

The Science Behind Self-Cycle™

The degradation process of Self-Cycle™ is what sets it apart. Conventional plastics are complex and resistant to degradation due to their strong polymer chains and chemical bonds.

This resistance is why they persist in the environment for so long. Plastics enhanced with Self-Cycle™ technology, on the other hand, become more "appetizing" to natural decomposers.

When exposed to microbe-rich environments like landfills, the plastic's molecular structure expands, allowing microbes to penetrate it. These microbes then secrete acids that break down the polymer chains, utilizing the carbon backbone of the polymer chain as an energy source.

As a result, Self-Cycle™ breaks down into organic matter (biomass) and biogas, which can potentially be harnessed for clean energy. Additionally, the CO² released during this process is locked into the ground, minimizing its greenhouse effect.

Addressing Greenwashing with Genuine Solutions

In a market where "greenwashing" or misleading eco-friendly claims are rampant,

Self-Cycle™ offers a genuine solution. Its properties allow it to be recycled with mainstream plastics, ensuring that it doesn't contaminate the recycling stream. Moreover, its ability to cause rapid degradation of plastics in natural environments, positions it as a truly sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.
